In Support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and I would like to take time this month to honor those in our community who have endured trauma of this nature.

I'd like to begin by sharing a story about a recipient of a Love Necklace.

I want to thank everyone who is a part of The Love Necklace Community. There is a woman who is healing from domestic abuse who is wearing the Love Necklace that was gifted to her through the purchase of a Love Necklace. I wish you could have been there when she received it so you could have seen how grateful she was... how much she smiled.

The Why

When I first designed the Love Necklace, it was a gift to myself. I wanted to feel loved so badly. I could only image what it would have felt like if, during one of my therapy sessions, my therapist told me out of nowhere, that she had a gift for me.

Believe Her

I have been vocal about a sexual harassment, and abuse, experience that ultimately led to the creation of the LOVE Necklace Campaign, but what I don’t often share, is that I was sexually assaulted several years prior. Because of what is happening in our country right now, I want to share my experience of what happened when I filed a police report, in hopes of offering a glimpse of what we endure when we make the choice to report a sexual assault. It is a painful process, and it deserves respect and compassion.

Coconuts Falling on a Hot Tin Roof

I arrived in San Pedro town on Tuesday evening, after a long day of travel. My love was waiting for me at the water taxi station, ready to take me to a private house on a secluded beach front property on the north side of the island. He planned to help a friend with some work on the property while giving me some quiet time to work on my art.

She's the One...

Last week, I had the opportunity to present my work at the Vignette Art Fair as a vocationist. I presented my novel, 'Sketches from the Heart of a Texas Artist' and my LOVE Necklace Campaign, and spoke about how the two projects fuse together to fulfill the mission of Mpulse Studio: to use wearable and visual art and literature to evoke purpose, love, and confidence, while connecting with community programs to support women's health, safety, and dignity.

Turning toward Spirituality

I was raised Catholic. In my family, every Sunday we would put on our Sunday best, go to church, then attend a donut and orange-flavored punch reception in the rectory, followed by Sunday school.
