It's in the Details

Painted on old, worn catamaran sails, my Nautical Bohemia Collection serves as a metaphor for the journeys that we all go on... these sails that I'm working on are worn and tattered and wrinkled after being beaten up by the sea, then tossed aside and replaced. Using acrylic paint and nautical themed imagery, I'm giving them new life—one that is bright, botanical, and filled with love.

What I haven't yet written about is my inspiration behind these pieces: painter, Georgia O'Keeffe, and fashion legends, Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier. I've always been inspired by fashion.

I believe that the most alluring elements of fashion design are in the detail and I am striving to emulate that kind of detail in this work by giving attention to both sides of the sail, and allowing the characteristics of the sail's original stitching to enhance the imagery. These are wall hangings that will be presented in custom built mahogany beams (social distancing has kept my carpenter from delivering them to my studio), but they are gorgeous.
