When I was designing a card for the Love Necklace Campaign, in support of women who are healing from domestic violence, I created two versions: one with an angel, and one with a splash of hibiscus flowers. I asked the director of the women's shelter which one she thought would be most meaningful to the woman receiving it.

"The one with the flowers." She said. "Many of these women have been told that they are not worthy of flowers, so we try to incorporate flowers into our decor as much as possible, so they can begin to understand that they are indeed worthy.

When I work in my Nautical Bohemia Collection, I am extremely intentional about the imagery I choose. The Collection is all about embracing each ebb and flow of our life adventures, and loving ourselves along the way, even during the heaviest storms.

The imagery I choose is tropical and nautical with nods here and there to the pirates of the Caribbean, and all intended to inspire and evoke feelings of adventure and self-love, hence the theme of the treasures... that hidden treasure chest that the pirates would scour the sea to unearth.

Each of these paintings symbolize your value... your worth. You're that rich, bright blue sapphire that sparkles like the sun on the deepest waters of the sea. You're that perfectly cut emerald stone, fit for a queen, and the diamond that shines brighter than the sun.

I painted these with love, to remind you that you're a treasure.
