Developmental editing involves a comprehensive assessment of a manuscript, encompassing aspects such as structure, pacing, characterization, themes, scene transitions, and beyond. The role of a developmental editor is to position the writer for success, address any overlooked areas, and reveal the genuine potential of both the book and the author's vision for it.
Cost
This cost varies based on the extent of editing you’re looking for. For line edits, I charge $150 an hour. For comprehensive developmental editing, I charge $3000 for a manuscript of approximately 70,000 words.
Timeline
Ideally, you should hire a developmental editor when you feel like your story is as close to completion as possible. However, I’m able to offer support and guide you through any stage of the process.
The time frame will vary based on different types of manuscripts, but generally speaking, I estimate one month to work through the process.
