"She gave me a copy of the Tao Te Ching and suggested that I allow myself to give more power to nature, and let myself be more emotionally flexible.  She used a palm tree as a metaphor.  The trunks of the palm trees are so malleable that they can bend and sway and weather any storm, but trees with stiff trunks would get torn in half in an island storm.  I took a deep breath and looked around the at the tall, green, trees.  Everything seemed to move slower here.  Even my breath felt slower, calmer, more relaxed."
